About RampCalcTool

RampCalcTool is a professional ADA ramp and handrail specification generator designed to streamline compliance checking and documentation for architecture and engineering professionals.

Our goal is simple: turn code-heavy, error-prone ramp calculations into a fast, visual check that you can trust when you are under deadline.

Public beta — all features are free for now.

We may introduce a Pro plan in the future for heavy users who need clean exports and additional features, but we expect to keep a fast, useful free calculator available.

Our Mission

From scattered code notes to one consistent ramp spec.

We believe that checking ADA and IBC compliance shouldn’t require late nights with code books, spreadsheets and redlines. RampCalcTool automates the tedious parts—calculations, rule checks and boilerplate text—while keeping you in control of design decisions. The result is fewer surprises at review, cleaner documentation, and more time to focus on the project instead of the code.

What you can do with RampCalcTool

  • Generate code-compliant ramp geometry from simple inputs like rise, available run and configuration.
  • Run instant ADA/IBC checks on slope, landings, handrails and guards so you can spot issues early.
  • Produce ready-to-paste general notes, checklists and code references for drawings and specifications.
  • Export documentation as PDF or DOCX for submittals, reviews and field inspections.

Who we built this for

Architects

Finish CD sets faster by checking ramp geometry, landings and handrail triggers in minutes instead of rebuilding the code from scratch.

Structural engineers

Verify slopes, landing spacing and guard requirements with clear numbers and assumptions you can trace back when questions come up.

Contractors

Turn abstract ramp rules into clear installation checklists and material notes that crews can actually follow on site.

Inspectors

Review ramp layouts against a consistent set of ADA/IBC criteria, with ready-to-use checklist items and code references.

Our story

RampCalcTool grew out of real project experience. After too many reviews where ramp slopes, landings or handrails were questioned late in the process, we started keeping our own spreadsheets and code excerpts to check layouts.

Those tools worked, but they were slow, fragile and hard to share with the rest of the team. We wanted something that encoded the core ADA 2010 and IBC 2021 rules once, then made them easy to apply on every project.

RampCalcTool is that tool: a focused calculator and spec generator for one narrow but important problem – getting ramps right the first time.

What RampCalcTool does (and doesn’t do)

What it does

  • Encodes baseline ADA 2010 and IBC 2021 ramp, landing, handrail and guard rules into a repeatable workflow.
  • Helps you test design options quickly and catch non-compliant slopes, missing landings or handrails early.
  • Produces consistent, code-based notes and checklists that you can drop into your drawings and specifications.

What it doesn’t do

  • Does not replace local amendments, zoning code or the judgment of the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Does not provide legal advice or guarantee permit approval.
  • Does not remove your responsibility to verify dimensions and details against the adopted codes on each project.
